Young children’s mind is very concrete, and math, science and alphabet are abstract symbols and concepts that are very hard for young children, with a concrete mind, to acquire and master. Instead of rote learning, a memorizing technique based on repetition, Singapore Math method uses pictorial, logical strategies, concrete materials, fun activities and games to help children to learn and master abstract concept.
The purpose of Singapore Math is to help children to learn how to use a variety of methods to problem-solve. Through learning how to comprehend, how to think (reasoning), how to apply acquired concept in daily life, children develop logical and critical thinking which enable them to problem-solve. This is beneficial for children not only in the learning of math, but also in all areas of development.
